Meta Spark Discontinued, Now What?!
As of January 14, 2025, Meta Spark will officially shut down, bringing an end to third-party AR tools and content on Meta’s platforms. While this may seem like a setback, at our Dev Studio Glitchi, we see this as an exciting opportunity to embrace the future of cross-platform AR/VR experiences.
Embracing Web-Based AR/VR Solutions
Meta Spark’s shutdown for third parties does not have to be a problem. The web offers plenty of flexible and open solutions for AR/VR development. At Glitchi, we’re shifting our focus to creating custom, web-based AR/VR experiences using tools like Niantic’s 8thWall. This allows us to design immersive content that can reach users on any device, without being tied to a single platform.
Leveraging Social Media for Engagement
Despite the move to web-based AR/VR, social media platforms like Instagram will remain critical to our strategy. We’ll use these platforms to guide users from social media directly to our web-based AR/VR experiences. This approach ensures users can discover and enjoy immersive content while staying connected to the platforms they love.
Seamless Sharing and Social Integration
To enhance the user experience, we’re integrating native sharing APIs, making it easy for users to record and share their AR/VR moments directly in their browser. This creates a smooth loop from immersive content back to social platforms, driving engagement and amplifying reach.
A New Era of AR/VR Experiences
The shutdown of Meta Spark signals the start of a more open, cross-platform future for AR/VR. At Glitchi, we’re excited to lead the way, offering dynamic, web-based solutions that provide immersive experiences while keeping users connected across platforms. The future of AR/VR is flexible, and we’re ready to embrace it.
